Items which are overdue may be renewed online, but a charge for the number of days that the item is overdue at the time of renewal will be placed into your account.

Circulation Services
We provide a variety of materials for checkout including: books, magazines, audio books, music CD's, VHS and DVD videos and CD-ROM software. All items except DVD, Blu-Ray and "new" books are loaned for a period of 21 days. DVDs and Blu-Rays are loaned for a period of 7 days. "New" books are loaned for a period of 14 days. Customers may renew their materials by phone (540) 672-3811 (Main); 854-5310 (Wilderness) or 832-0712 (Gordonsville) or online (www.ocplva.org). There are also return chutes next to the door of all facilities for 24 x7 returns.

Placing a hold
Search for the title
select it from the list by double-clicking on it
and then select the Hold Request button at the lower left.
You will need your library card Number and PIN number to place a hold.
If you do not have a PIN number, you will need a library staff member to set one up for you.
Many patrons have a default PIN number entered for them of the last four digits of their phone number.
Renewing Items

Input your library card number (the entire barcode number on the back of your card)and your PIN number. Many patrons have the last 4 digits of their telephone number set up as their PIN number. If this does not work, please come in or call and have our staff establish a PIN number for you. Online renewals are blocked in our software if they will result in a charge in over $10.00 or if the customer has the maximum number of items (30) checked out. |
Requesting Items
Request cards are provided at the main desk of all library locations. Requests from library cardholders are considered in accordance to our Materials Selection Policy and the availability of funds. Online request form.
Youth and Teen Services

Reference Assistance
We provide reference service via telephone or in person when the library is open.

The Libraries own just under 150,000 items with just under 100,000 different titles.
Main Library owns 74,519 items
Wilderness Branch owns 49,000 items
Gordonsville Branch owns 20,300 items
Community Spaces in the Library
Each location offers a meeting room that may be used by the public in accordance with our meeting room policy. Reservations may be made a maximum of 12 months in advance. Recurring reservations may not be available when demand is high to ensure equity of access. Please see our Meeting Room Policy for more information.
